Two men saw the CCTV footage of the guy who stole her bag with the bear inside. They recognized the thief, took the bear from him and gave it to her on July 29.
“NOT A SINGLE SCRATCH ON HER! Two kind samaritans returned her to us in a safe space, voice is there, just no glasses!!” the Filipina happily posted on Twitter.

Ryan Reynolds, the Canadian actor who pledged to give $5,000 reward, expressed his gratitude to those who helped in searching for the bear and even to the person who took it for keeping it in good condition.
Mara thanked him for his help bringing the story to global exposure.

On July 26, one tweet about a Filipina looking for her precious teddy bear reached Ryan Reynolds’s attention. With his intention to help, the actor retweeted the message and offered $5,000 or nearly P250,000 to anyone who could find it.
The teddy bear is so special to Maria because it has the recorded voice of her late mom saying, “I love you, I’m proud of you, I’ll always be with you.” Her mom suffered from the big C and her recording is the last thing she had with her.
Soriano and her fiance were busy unloading their things as they transfer to a new apartment. She left her bag outside when she was interrupted by a call from a friend. As seen on the CCTV footage provided by her apartment manager, her Herschel backpack with the bear and an iPad were taken by an unknown male.
The Canadian actor’s tweet gave her the exposure she needed and soon, the bear company, Build-a-bear and Herschel, contacted her to replace her lost bear and bag. Many others also wanted to contribute to the reward money, but Soriano urged them to donate instead to Sunnybrook Palliative Care; the one who took care of her mother in her last three months.
